4116 Training Slots Open: No Written Exam, Direct Merit-Based Selection for 10th & ITI Graduates

The Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC), Northern Railway, has issued a notification (No.: RRC/NR/05/2025/Act Apprentice dated: 18/11/2025) for the engagement of 4116 Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Online applications are invited from eligible and desirous candidates for imparting training at various Divisions/Units/Workshops over Northern Railway. This recruitment offers a significant opportunity for young individuals with technical training.
The application window is open for approximately one month. Candidates are strongly advised to submit their applications well before the closing date to avoid possible inability or failure to log on to the RRC website due to heavy load.

Total Category-Wise Vacancy Breakdown (Sum of All Clusters)

Note on PwBD and Ex-SM Slots: The total number of training slots (4116) shown in the notification is inclusive of the PwBD and Ex-Servicemen (EX-SM) reserved slots. The PwBD category includes Hearing Handicapped (HH), Orthopedically Handicapped (OH), Mentally Disabled (Md), and Visually Handicapped (VH).
Eligibility Criteria: Education and Age Limit
To be considered for the Act Apprentice training, candidates must fulfil the following conditions as specified in the notification.
Essential Educational Qualification
As on the date of issue of the notification (18.11.2025), the candidate must meet these criteria:
- Matriculation/10th: The candidate must have passed the SSC/Matriculation/10th class examination or its equivalent (under the 10+2 examination system) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a recognized Board.
- ITI Certificate: Candidates must have passed the ITI in the relevant trade issued by NCVT/SCVT recognized by the Government of India.
Important Note: Applicants whose 10th and ITI results are awaited as of the date of the notification are NOT eligible to apply.
Age Limit (as on 24.12.2025)
The age of the candidates as of the closing date of the online application must fall within the following limits:
- Minimum Age: The candidate should have completed 15 years of age.
- Maximum Age: The candidate should not have completed 24 years of age.
Age relaxations are applicable for reserved categories:
- SC/ST candidates: Relaxation of 5 years.
- OBC candidates: Relaxation of 3 years.
- Persons with Disability (PwBD): Relaxation of 10 years.
- Ex-servicemen: Relaxation up to an additional 10 years, contingent upon a minimum of 6 months of continuous service.
Application Fee and Exemption
The application fee is non-refundable and must be paid through the online mode as part of the application process.
- Application Fee:Rs. 100/-.
- Exemption: No fee is required to be paid by SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates.
- The RRC will not accept the application fee via Cash, Cheque, Money Order, IPO, or Demand Draft.
Mode of Selection and Merit List Preparation
The selection process for the engagement of Act Apprentices will strictly follow the procedure outlined below.
Merit-Based Selection
There will be no written test or viva (interview) for this recruitment. The entire selection is based on the academic merit of the candidate.
The selection will be made based on a merit list prepared by taking the simple average of the percentage marks obtained in both:
- Matriculation/SSC/10th (with minimum 50% aggregate marks).
- ITI examination.
Equal weightage will be given to the marks from both examinations.
In case two candidates have the same marks, the following rules will apply sequentially:
- The candidate having the older age shall be preferred.
- If the Date of Birth is also the same, the candidate who passed the matriculation exam earlier shall be considered first.
General and Crucial Instructions
Candidates must pay close attention to the following instructions to ensure their application is valid.
- Single Application: A candidate can submit only one application. On receipt of multiple applications, all applications will be summarily rejected, and the application fee will not be refunded.
- Document Upload: All relevant certificates, including the Date of Birth certificate, Matriculation Mark Sheet & Certificate, ITI Trade Certificate/Mark Sheet, and Caste/Disability certificates, must be uploaded with the online application form.
- Document Verification: Candidates called for Document Verification must bring all documents uploaded with the online application in Original along with one set of self-attested photocopies. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of candidature.
- No Right to Employment: Imparting training will not confer any right for the candidate’s absorption in the Railway after the successful completion of training. The employer is not obliged to offer any employment.
- Legal Jurisdiction: For any legal dispute, the jurisdiction will be at New Delhi only.
